 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Opening Theme:
     ALIAS RON KAVANA - Soweto Trembles (The Jo'burg Jig)
                         [THINK LIKE A HERO/Chiswick Records]
 MARCIA BALL - Red Beans [BLUE HOUSE/Rounder]  The lady piano professor
     in the red dress is back with her sixth!  Brillinat, rollicking,
     New Orleans-flavored bluesy roots music.
 MICHAEL DOUCET & DENNIS McGEE - Le Reel de Barza [THE MAD REEL/Arhoolie]
     Re-release of leftover tracks from the "Dit Beausoleil" album, the
     "Belizaire" soundtradck, plus several unreleased tracks including
     this one.
 THE RADIATORS - Little Paradise [BUCKET OF FISH/Croaker Records]  The
     latest live batch from the Rads, including this sweet Caribbean-
     flavored tune that I've been waiting for them to record for eyars.
 PAUL SANCHEZ - Mama's Home Brew [WASTED LIVES AND BLUEGRASS/Monkey Hill]
     The excellent second solo album from the Cowboy Mouth member who
     provides most of their folk influence.  Almost all acoustic (with some
     searing harmonica), great lyrics, highly recommended.
 THE TANNAHILL WEAVERS - The Blackbird Set [CAPERNAUM/Green Linnet]  Great
     new stuff from the Tannies, and my favorite since "Land of Light"
 CAFE TACUBA - El Metro [RE/WEA Latina]  Second album from highly acclaimed
     Mexican alternative rock band, with strong roots influences.
 CAIFANES - Nubes [EL SILENCIO/BMG-Ariola]  Mexico's top rock band, univer-
     sally adored.  Third album, produced by Adrian Belew.
 MALDITA VECINDAD - Ton~o [EL CIRCO/BMG-Ariola]  For my money, the best
     band in Mexico.  This song is described as "mariachi reggae".
 EL VEZ - Aztlan [GRACIASLAND/Sympathy for the Record Industry]  "The
     Mexican Elvis" does Paul Simon, with his own witty and biting lyrics
     set to the tune of "Graceland".  "The Rio Grande/is shining like a
     national scar ..."
 A set dedicated to peace in the north of Ireland, on the heels of the
 IRA's announcement of ceasefire:
 ALTAN - Reels: Tommy Peoples'/The Windmill/Fintan McManus' [ISLAND ANGEL/
     Green Linnet]
 RON KAVANA - Reconciliation [HOME FIRE/Green Linnet]
 DAVY SPILLANE - Lament for the Dead of the North [LAMENT/RealWorld-Caroline]
 TOMMY KEANE - Reels: Big Pat/Billy Brocker's/The Ballintra Lass [THE
     PIPER'S APRON/Mulligan]
 And now my annual Labor Day set of work songs, socialist songs, occupation
 songs and songs about working, with listener requests, and not nearly
 enough time to get to everything I wanted to get to ...
 BILLY BRAGG - There Is Power In A Union [TALKING WITH THE TAXMAN ABOUT
     POETRY]
 PATRICK STREET - Only A Miner (A Prince Among Men) [ALL IN GOOD TIME/
     Green Linnet]
 UNCLE TUPELO - True to Life [STILL FEEL GONE/Rockville]  By request.
     "True to life is assembly-line sickness ..."  Then, the UT song
     I was planning to play anyway when this guy called,
 UNCLE TUPELO - Coalminers [MARCH 16-20, 1992/Rockville]  A chilling,
     haunting song about horrendous working conditions ... "Coalminers
     won't you organize/wherever you may be/and make this a land of
     freedom for workers/like you and me ..."
 THE IGUANAS - My Girlfriend is a Waitress [NUEVO BOOGALOO/Margaritaville-
     MCA]  "... treat her right."
 RICHARD THOMPSON - Time to Ring Some Changes [HARD CASH/Green Linnet]
 CLIFTON CHENIER - Je Suis Un Recolteur (I Am A Farmer) [BOGALUSA BOOGIE/
     Arhoolie]
 PAUL ROBESON - Joe Hill [DON'T MOURN ... ORGANIZE!: SONGS OF JOE HILL/
     Smithsonian-Folkways]  By request.
 PLANXTY - The Good Ship Kangaroo [AFTER THE BREAK/Tara]
 DAVID LINDLEY & HANI NASER - Cottonmill Blues [OFFICIAL BOOTLEG: LIVE IN
     TOKYO/Pleemhead]
 THE DORKESTRA - 16 Tons [11593/Scratch]  By request; at least, the Ernie
     Ford version was, but I did this one instead.  It's the first time
     I've played a song with a Jeff Farias vocal ... I still don't care
     for his voice, although it worked for this song.
 BEAUSOLEIL - Travailler, C'est Trop Dur [BAYOU DELUXE: THE BEST OF
     BEAUSOLEIL/Rhino]
 GRATEFUL DEAD - Cumberland Blues [WORKINGMAN'S DEAD/Warner]
 DOUGIE MACLEAN - Marching Mystery [MARCHING MYSTERY/Dunkeld]  Brand new
     release, a little diversion from all the labor.
 BATTLEFIELD BAND - Working Away/The Toastie Jig [NEW SPRING/Temple]
 BOB DYLAN - Maggie's Farm [BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME/Columbia]  By request
 LITTLE FEAT - Willin' [LITTLE FEAT]  "I've driven every kinda rig that's
     ever been made/driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed ..."
 And now for a little Cajun departure ...
 SAVOY-DOUCET CAJUN BAND - La Talle d'Eronces [LIVE! AT THE DANCE/Arhoolie]
     Mike Doucet doesn't like this album ... the mix is pretty bad, but
     the spirit is there, at least ...
 BALFA TOUJOURS - Tow Truck Blues [POP, TU ME PARLES TOUJOURS/Swallow]
     Dedicated to my car.
 DEWEY BALFA - Quand J'Etais Pauvre (When I Was Poor) [LES SACALAITS SONT
     PAS SALE/Swallow]  Dedicated to me after I picked up my car from
     the garage.
 THE HACKBERRY RAMBLERS - Cajun Twist [JOLIE BLONDE/Arjoolie]
 And now for something completely different ...
 SUGAR - Can't Help You Anymore [FILE UNDER: EASY LISTENING/Ryko]  Brand
     new, and brilliant!
 THE BEAT FARMERS - Southern Cross [VIKING LULLABYS/Sector] The latest
     after four years from Country Dick Montana and his L.A. roots-
     punkmeisters
 BIERCE IN L.A. - Unobstructed Shot [VALE OF TEARS/Rococo]  Fascinating
     L.A. alternative-country band, with lots of guest shots from the likes
     of Chris Gaffney and Dave Alvin.  I reckon the late hour saved me
     from the protest calls, as this song is sung from the POV of Lazarus,
     who's peeved at having been risen from the dead, and who'd like to
     get "a clear, unobstructed shot at Jesus ..."
 MEAT PUPPETS - Shine [TOO HIGH TO DIE/London]  Gorgeous, sweet acoustic
     number from the Puppets' latest
 And, eventually fading into "Morning Edition" ...
 RELATIVITY - Gracelands [RELATIVITY/Green Linnet]  One of my all-time
     favorite tunes.
