Tonight's show pays tribute to Harry Smith's monumental and influential 6-disc compilation, "The Anthology of American Folk Music", released by Folkways Records 50 years ago this week. The box set was remastered, bolstered with expanded liner notes and re-released on CD by Smithsonian-Folkways in 1997. Album notations: AAFM 1-A, 1-B, 2-A, 2-B, 3-A and 3-B refer to discs from the original set. AAFM 4-A and 4-B refer to the previously unreleased Volume 4, which came out on Revenant Records in 2000. TIFT MERRITT & THE CARBINES - Jukejoint Girl [45 single/self-release] Tift played at The Mint last Friday; I'm told that this single is now a collector's item! THE CARTER FAMILY - No Depression in Heaven [AAFM 4-B} Covered by Uncle Tupelo on their first album.
