DEAN MAGRAW - Gracie's Reel [BROKEN SILENCE/Red House] CLIFTON CHENIER - Hungry Man Blues - [CLIFTON CHENIER SINGS THE BLUES/ Arhoolie] Fablulous blues from the King of Zydeco (who was just about the King of the Blues as well) 7:08pm GLENN LEE - Joyful Sounds [SACRED STEEL: TRADITIONAL SACRED AFRICAN- AMERICAN STEEL GUITAR MUSIC IN FLORIDA/Arhoolie] Wish the music sounded like this in my church when I was growing up, instead of a dreary electric organ and a bunch of singers who all sounded like they were on Thorazine ... BIG JOE DUSKIN - Little Red Rooster [CINCINNATI STOMP/Arhoolie] BLIND BOY FULLER - Thousand Woman Blues [BEFORE THE BLUES, VOL. 3/Yazoo] PETER CASE & DAVE ALVIN - Monday Morning Blues [AVALON BLUES: A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF MISSISSIPPI JOHN HURT/Vanguard] 7:25pm THE HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN - Forget-Me-Nots [GHOST TRAIN/Hightone] Brand-new, and composed by Elana Fremerman. PORKY FREEMAN - Boogie Woogie Boy [DOUGHBOYS, PLAYBOYS AND COWBOYS: THE GOLDEN YEARS OF WESTERN SWING, VOL. 4 - OOGIE BOOGIE/ Proper Records] CLIFF BRUNER - That's What I Like About the South [DOUGHBOYS, PLAYBOYS AND COWBOYS: THE GOLDEN YEARS OF WESTERN SWING, VOL. 4 - OOGIE BOOGIE/Proper Records] Gee, considering I used to do an entire one-hour show of Western swing at this radio station, it's been ages since I played any on this show. Time to make up for that, I think. THE RED STICK RAMBLERS - Sweet Georgia Brown [recorded live at Grant Street Dancehall, Lafayette, LA] A "Down Home" first -- I noticed that the boys had some new exclusive MP3s on their website, downloaded it while the Porky Freeman song was playing, listened to it while the Cliff Bruner song was playing, then broadcast it directly from my iBook into the control board. Nifty! 7:42pm NICKEL CREEK - Spit on a Stranger [THIS SIDE/Sugar Hill] Yep, you guessed it. It's a Pavement cover, and it's terrific. PHIL TAGLIERE - Places [SLOW/Bong Load] Excellent album from L.A. singer/songwriter; find out more at www.philtagliere.com OH SUSANNA - King's Road [SLEEPY LITTLE SAILOR/Catamount] 7:55pm THE OYSTER BAND - I Fought the Law [FROM LITTLE ROCK TO LEIPZIG/Ryko] And the law won! FAIRPORT CONVENTION - My Love Is In America [XXXV: THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY ALBUM/Compass] 8:08pm RON KAVANA - Johnny Go Easy [HOME FIRE/Special Delivery] One of my very favorite Irish musicians (and criminally under-appreciated in this country, methinks), hailing from Cork City. This album is available domestically \ on Green Linnet ÉAMONN COYNE - Whistling Reels [THROUGH THE ROUND WINDOW/ Compass] Brilliant tenor banjo player from Dublin, now resident in Edinburgh and a member of the band Russell's House. Joined here by the likes of Dermot Byrne and Ciarán Curran of Altan. AOIFE CLANCY - Reconciliation [SILVERY MOON/Appleseed] Pronounced "EE-fa". A native of Co. Tipperary, a former member of Cherish the Ladies and daughter of Bobby Clancy of the legendary Clancy Brothers. This is her third solo album, and here she covers a fantastic Ron Kavana song (that in fact appears in its original version on the above RK album). It's about the only way to end the so-called "Troubles" in the north of Ireland. NATALIE MacMASTER - Bog an Lochan Steps [LIVE/Rounder] Killer Scottish-based fiddling from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. 8:27pm KELLY WILLIS - You Can't Take It With You [EASY/Ryko] Brand-new. PETER HOLSAPPLE & SUSAN COWSILL with THE WALKIN' TACOS - A Song For You [CONMEMORATIVO: A TRIBUTE TO GRAM PARSONS/Rhino] RYAN ADAMS & CAITLIN CARY - Return of the Grievous Angel [recorded live in Nashville, 10/28/1999] 8:41pm SOLOMON BURKE - None of Us Are Free [DON'T GIVE UP ON ME/Fat Possum] THE HOLMES BROTHERS - I'll Fly Away [JUBILATION/RealWorld] THE NEVILLE BROTHERS - Sitting in Limbo [FIYO ON THE BAYOU/A&m] 8:56pm BEAUSOLEIL - Le Jig Français [BAYOU DELUXE: THE BEST OF MICHAEL DOUCET & BEAUSOLEIL/Rhino]
