Using The Gumbo Pages

Welcome to The Gumbo Pages, the World Wide Web's first and friendliest guide to the food, music and culture of Louisiana (established January 1994) -- designed, compiled, written and edited by native New Orleanian Chuck Taggart. If you're new to the Internet and the World Wide Web in particular, here's a little help getting around:

If you're looking for a particular recipe on this site, or for anything in particular that you think might be on this site, my first and foremost words of advice are ...

Use our internal search engine.

Our built-in search engine here on the Pages will search based on keyword(s) or phrases. This will, I can only hope, cut down on the number of emails that say, "Do you have a recipe for ___________________?" If you don't find it in the search engine's results, it's unlikely to be here.

IMPORTANT! If you're looking for gumbo recipes, do not enter the word "gumbo" in our search engine! The name of this site is at the bottom of every page on this site, and entering "gumbo" will cause the search engine to return every page on this entire site as a result. You don't want that to happen.

Believe it or not, by this advanced date there are still some folks out there who don't know how this whole thing works (primarily folks who use the Web as part of an appliance that sits on top of their television set). The World Wide Web is a "hypertext" medium, meaning that it's written in plain text, some of which is highlighted or boldfaced; these words or phrases are links to further information. Hypertext links are indicated by highlighted text (in color and/or underlined), or by being in boldface type or reverse video, depending on the Web browsing software you are using. To follow a link, select that highlighted phrase by single-clicking with your mouse, or by using your arrow/tab keys and return/enter keys.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions bug reports or even submissions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
